I once walked into a home open where the owner was selling privately. When I entered the house I could see him sitting on the couch in the lounge room watching a footy game on TV. He did not get up and I can not remember if he even said hello. I was flabbergasted.

Here are ten quick tips for presenting your home.

1. Let the light in AND turn the lights on

2. Play soft music - television off! (If you must watch the footy, do not open your home that day)

3. Get the fire going on a cold day, cool the place on a hot one

4. Put clean towels in the bathroom (hide used face cloths, toothbrushes etc)

5. Take washing off the line

6. Put toilet seats and lids down

7. Scrub up the bathroom and kitchen

8. Empty the ash trays and spray a little air freshener around - open doors and windows to air the place out before hand

9. Greenery looks great – even if it is artificial

10. Make sure that if a buyer opens a cupboard door your things do not spill out all over the place

And for your own sake — lock away small valuables.
